Not as special as the heist movie with superheroes like the original was, the sequel is moving more towards generic superhero status. If the Avengers want to take down the big purple guy, they’ll surely need all of that new trio’s special talents. That will change during this next Avengers team-up, where Thanos finally leaves his comic throne to fight the Guardians, the Avengers, and all of the newer recruits like Doctor Strange and Black Panther. Your kid will be a superhero in no time. With Darren Cross preparing to debut his own shrinking tech and sell it to the highest bidder, Hank Pym finally comes out of retirement and decides its time to do something about it. For the film’s first act, Cross operates as a shady businessman who will stop at nothing to replicate the Pym Particles and sell his Yellowjacket suit to the highest bidder. Director Peyton Reed has made a number of changes to the character, first by making Ghost a female character named Ava, and second, by leaving her backstory a mystery. But the character is a bit different across mediums. It seems like a bit of a missed opportunity on Marvel’s part to have never given Spider-Man and Ant-Man a team-up series, but their only adventure together made up for it.
Watching Captain America and Iron Man throw down is so exciting (and upsetting!) that you don’t really miss a big Spider-Man reveal. Ant-Man’s tech isn’t. She knows the tech, she’s trained, and she’s already an expert at communicating with ants. She also already knows her way around Pym Tech and is by far the most qualified person for the mission.
In order to rescue her and save his daughter, Lang broke into the home of Dr. Henry Pym and stole his original Ant-Man suit. The fun begins when Peter Parker and Scott Lang arrive at the Tomorrow Exhibition to check out Tony Stark’s new Quark technology – but, unfortunately, some attendees have nefarious plans. After fending off an attack from an actual spider, ol’ webhead makes his way to the Quark device, where he finds Ant-Man under attack from the terrorists. There was also a conspicuous piece of concept art detailing the original Wasp suit worn by Hope’s lost mother, Janet Van Dyne, which we glimpsed briefly in flashback form during the first Ant-Man. Josh Brolin’s purple baddie has been pulling the strings since the first Avengers movie, though aside from two brief scenes in Guardians of the Galaxy, he’s mostly been relegated to Marvel’s post-credit scenes. In a day and age when Ant-Man was first invented, it would have made sense.
